Laport Editorial is my freelance editing business, where I offer developmental editing for scholars and writers working on proposals, articles, and books.

The increasing demands of holding a tenure(-track) position can make the writing process an isolating experience, particularly when it is intimidating to present work-in-progress to colleagues out of fear that they might not understand it yet or that they might treat your ideas unfairly. It is an unfortunate reality but the academy trains how to tear research apart instead of how to piece it together. This is especially counter-productive at the developmental stage of writing. The publishing industry has also made constructive feedback harder to come by for authors with increasingly less in-house support.

My goal when working with authors is to help them (1) understand the unique contribution their project can have in their field or in the market, (2) build a logical progression of the core idea throughout the text, and (3) present it effectively to different audiences.
