My name is Theo Laport. Laport Editorial is my freelance editing business, where I offer developmental editing and back-of-book indexing for scholarly texts.

The increasing demands of holding a tenure(-track) position can make the writing process an isolating experience. It may be intimidating to present work-in-progress to colleagues out of fear that they might not get it and treat your ideas unfairly. It is an unfortunate reality but the academy trains how to tear research apart instead of how to help piece it together. This can be counter-productive in the developmental stage of writing. My goal when working with clients is to help them (1) recognize all that they are doing, (2) present this in an effective way to their various audiences, and (3) ensure there is a consistent and logical progression of the core idea.
